While many people may claim that branding is not essential, many researchers have shown that wise branding and a focused corporate identity are the keys for business success. Therefore, understanding what branding really is and then developing your brand and what it stands for is highly important.

BRANDING: The real definition in a nutshell

The branding process is comprised of two stages: planning and implementing. The most common mistake about branding is having the wrong definition for it. The word Branding relates mainly to the “WHAT”: the process of creating the brand’s character and values as they are presented to your customers, rather than the “HOW”: developing a website, creating a logo and a slogan or printing your stationary. Those, among many others, are only the products of the branding process, and as long as they keep representing a more relevant and attractive brand character to your customers than that of your competitors, the consumers will be more loyal to you than to your competition.

As I see it, the branding process (or in other words - creating your brand’s character and values), sees Sociology as the basis for reflecting the customers’ actual needs. It is comprised of several elements which are the result of refining the reality with strategic thinking and forming the correct identity, based on sociological theories.

What is Sociological Branding?
The power of a brand is derived only from society. It is therefore important to understand the forces that drive society and how to tap into them in order to understand the consumers' needs. Moreover, Sociological Branding enables everyone who works with it to analyze every society without being affected by external factors, such as political or geographical. The magic triangle of Sociological Branding studies the needs of the target audience and the competition, and only then develops the brand, while adapting it to the consumers and not vice versa.

The branding process is short and relatively inexpensive, and will amplify the efficiency of your advertising and marketing efforts while giving you a firm basis for your business’ future actions. The process begins before you take any action (such as developing your website, designing your logo, etc.) and ends with delivering the right message.
